What do Giant Puffballs, Chicken of the Woods, and Dead Man’s Fingers all have in common? They’re all types of mushrooms that can be found in Nebraska! Chance Brueggemann, Project Biologist for the Northern Prairies Land Trust and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, will help us learn about the many types of mushroom-producing fungi that can be found in Nebraska woodlands. We’ll dive into what makes mushrooms an important part of the ecosystem, receive an introduction to mushroom identification and names, and hear stories from the field from a biologist with a fascination with mushrooms. The Schramm Sunday Speaker Series is a monthly program where experts in the field deliver presentations related to nature and science in Nebraska. The goal of the program is to promote curiosity, to facilitate conversations about science topics with experts in the field, and to provide opportunities for lifelong learning for all ages.
All Schramm Speaker Series programs are free for the public to attend and take place in the Schramm Education Center classroom (21502 W Hwy 31, Gretna, NE 68028). Visitors that wish to also tour Schramm Education Center will need to pay admission to the center and enter through the main entrance. No park permit is required in the Center’s parking lot.
