CE: Science of…Nebraska Mussels
For this Science Of episode we are going to flex our muscles. Well, our intellectual muscles, and talk about mussels. Nebraska isn’t likely the first state that comes to mind when people talk about these clam- like creatures, but truth is we have quite a few freshwater mussels. In this episode we will discuss what mussels are, their anatomy, their importance and purpose in the freshwater ecosystem, discuss what malacologists really do (that’s a person that studies mussels) and even update you on the amazing conservation work happening in our fish hatcheries with our endangered freshwater mussels. Yes- there are threatened and endangered mussels!
