VO: Kearney Outdoor Expo

Thursday, May 5, 20229:00 amFriday, May 6, 20225:00 pm
Kearney State Recreation Area

Nebraska Game and Parks is looking for two volunteers to run an activity at the Kearney Outdoor Discovery Program (Expo) on Thursday May 5th and Friday May 6th from 8am – 3pm at Kearney State Recreation Area in Kearney, NE.

What: Two volunteers (1 for Thursday, and 1 for Friday) to run a 4th -5th grade activity called “Animal Olympics”. This would be broken down into potentially 5- 50 minute sessions. Some days there might not be a full schedule, so you may have less than 5 sessions.

When: One volunteer for Thursday May 5th, and one volunteer for Friday May 6th

Activity: Nebraska Game and Parks will provide a pre-made tub with all the activity supplies and someone will be there to walk you through the activity as well. This is a fun interactive game for students to participate in different Olympic “animal related events/sessions”. For instance one session is to see how many times students can “flap their wings” in 20 seconds. They will then record their data on a sheet. There are a total of 5 different events that students will participate in all related to animals and different adaptations that they have. Volunteers would simply need to do a very quick introduction about what the students would be doing, observe and watch students do the events, and then a simple wrap up.

**Lunch and a t-shirt will be provided each day for the activity. A park permit (either a daily or an annual) will be required to enter the park.

If this is something that would interest you please email monica.macoubrie@nebraska.gov with which day(s) you would be willing to volunteer, your name, and cell phone number.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
