CE: Get to Know: Plains Bison

Wednesday, November 2, 2022
11:00 am12:00 pm

Plains Bison have roamed the Great Plains for centuries. Join Conservation Nebraska and Josh Wiese from the Crane Trust as we learn together about the history and importance of bison both today and in the past.
Currently plains bison, also called buffalo, are managed by several groups throughout the state of Nebraska. None of these groups would be able to do the work they do with bison today if it weren’t for conservation efforts in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Josh completed his Master's of Environmental Management through Western Colorado University focusing on creating a comprehensive plan for the Crane Trust to manage habitat with bison and their genetic diversity, health, and cultural revitalization. His current role as Range Manager focuses on monitoring habitat changes and management of over 6,000 acres, restoring native vegetation and diversity, and managing a herd of over 150 bison
