CE: Gardening for Diversity: Selecting Native Species

Wednesday, May 3, 2023
6:30 pm7:30 pm
Council Bluffs Public Library - Meeting Room B

Perfect for beginning gardeners and anyone who is interested in supporting native plantings in their outdoor spaces, Gardening for Diversity will give you the confidence and background knowledge you need to grow a beautiful native garden that supports local wildlife and provides other great benefits for you and your community!

Not all plants are appropriate for every site and learning what species will flourish at your site helps with the longevity and health of your garden. This third session covers what you need to consider to choose plant species that will thrive and reweave the food web. The light, water, and soil conditions of your site, the size of your garden plot, the region you live in, and your budget are all important in choosing plant species, numbers of plants, and seeds vs. plugs. We will also review options to obtain native plants.

Ages 14+ please. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.

Please meet in Meeting Room B.

Participants can pick and choose which sessions they would like to attend, but we recommend attending as many as possible to ensure you build a strong foundational knowledge.

Session topics include:

Part 1: Introduction to Pollinators and Native Plants, March 15th
Part 2: Native Garden Basics, April 19th
Part 3: Selecting Native Species, May 3rd
Part 4: Garden Prep & Groundwork, May 17th
