CE: Science of…Threatened & Endangered Species
Conservation Education Project WILD Wildlife
We are all familiar with the problems that the Orangutans, Snow Leopards, and Rhinos are facing with habitat loss, disease and poaching. However, what about animals that are in our own state that are facing some of these same problems? Animals like the Massasauga rattlesnake, Swift Foxes, or even the American Burying beetle? Nebraska has 30 Threatened and Endangered species throughout the state and each one is unique and special in its niche. What would happen to the saline wetlands if the Saltwort plant were to disappear? Or if we lost all of our cool water stream fish species? In this episode we will highlight some of our Threatened and Endangered species and what is happening to make them at-risk. We will also talk about some success stories as well such as the North American River Otter.
