NGPC Rare Butterfly Survey Zoom Training
Please consider helping to document rare butterflies in Nebraska. This community science effort will monitor two species: the regal fritillary and monarch butterfly.
The butterfly surveys will primarily take place in the tall grass prairie ecosystem of Nebraska (the eastern quarter of the state). However, we are expanding the surveys this year to include sites throughout the rest of Nebraska, so everyone is welcome.
We will be having a Zoom training for the project on May 25th at 9:00 AM until 11:59 AM Central. Anyone interested in butterflies is welcome to join the first hour of the training to learn about the species in Nebraska. The first hour will focus on general information about monarch, regals, common plants, and other community science opportunities. After this initial introduction, anyone that is interested in participating in the surveying will learn the ins and outs of the methods during the final 2 hours of the training.
There is an additional training date on June 5th. Only one training is needed to participate in the project. If neither date works you but you are still interested, both trainings will be recorded and available to watch later. For more information, please contact the survey leader, Cody Dreier, at cody.dreier@nebraska.gov or 402-471-1755.
